Me
and My Bucky
...a story
about Andy Kirk
When my family
(consisting of 3 goldens, 2 cats, my husband and me)
moved out to the country in Maine on a beautfiul pond, the last thing we
thought we needed was another pet! One day, we were sitting on the dock
with the dogs just enjoying a nice, sunny day and "slap!" the water shot
up and a brown animal dove under. As we looked around, we saw a head pop
up in the distance and come swimming towards us..."slap!" another
fountain of water and the animal dove under. Once the dogs realized this
looked like something fun to do, they all jumped in the water and swam
after the now recognized form of a beaver.
Fast forward two months, "Bucky" the Beaver comes to our house to play
everyday. He swims to the dock and slaps the water and the dogs go
running. They'll all swim together for up to two hours on some days.
My Oldie Goldie, Andy, is particularly smitten with Bucky and will spend
the entire day on the dock waiting for him. While swimming with him, she
has this crazed smile on her face and is so engrossed in the fun of it
all. If it just happens to get dark while they're out swimming, that
doesn't deter her...she'll swim until Bucky's had enough and goes back
to his lodge.
She was never particularly big on tennis balls, but beavers are another
story!!
