UPDATE 4/5/2010
Pepper is doing great ! His leg continues to improve every day and
is beginning to gain muscle mass and look like the other one. We
made a trip to see the Vet a week or so ago and they are very
pleased with his progress and think he's doing great ! He's
running and playing with our dogs in the yard without any problems. His
manners and leash skills are greatly improved. We've been working with
him on a number of commands, which I'm certain he'd known at some point
before, but just needed to be reminded of. He is definitely motivated
by his stomach, so the use of treats during his training sessions,
has helped to refresh his memory.
He turned 2 years old this past Thursday, April 1. We had
a birthday party for him and I took him to Petco so he could pick out
his birthday toy ! He was such a good boy while we were in the
store and all the employees were loving on him ! He gots lots of
special birthday hugs ! He follows us where ever we
are in the house or yard and enjoys laying at your feet after a big day
of playing with our other two dogs. He's simply a joy to have
around. He's going to make a wonderful addition to some great
family !

UPDATE 3/16/2010
Pepper has been with us for a week now and is doing so well. What
an energetic and gorgeous boy! He has a beautiful, curly, thick,
dark red coat and is so soft. Who would know he had hip surgery
just a few weeks ago. He was a bit of a “wild man” at first
because he’d been crated for so long while he recovered from surgery.
However, after just a couple of days, he worked off the pent-up energy
and has settled in nicely to our family atmosphere. He loves to
play tug with the toys and enjoys teasing our Golden with the tennis
balls. They are both young and love to wrestle with each other, so
they’re a nice fit as play partners. He can be very vocal if he
doesn’t get the toy he wants when he thinks he should. His leg is
getting stronger every day with daily walks and lots of play time.
He doesn’t act like it’s ever bothered him. He loves to ride in the car
and is a very good passenger. We are working on his leash and
heeling skills. He is quickly learning good manners and how to
wait for his food to be placed on the floor at meal time. He sleeps on
his dog bed in our bedroom all night and crates well during the day.
He wants to be near us and loves to follow us around the house. He
loves to be petted and is working on getting his “Love Bucket” filled
back up. He’s going to make a wonderful addition to some great
family !

MEDICAL UPDATE 3/5/10
Pepper is currently in
the hospital recovering from hip surgery. He had an FHO to fix his
bad hip and is doing well. We hope to have him in a foster home
next week.

Report 2/6/10
Pepper belonged to an elderly gentleman who truly loved
him, but due to failing health he had to go to live in an assisted
facility. The family tried desperately to keep Pepper and his
owner together, but it was determined that the gentleman would not be
returning to his home. Pepper's hip had come out of the socket and
this family had the vet put it back in and this worked for a while.
After bringing him into MAGRR, it was determined that the hip had again
dislocated. Our vets have performed and FHO on him so that his hip
will no longer bother him and once he has recovered from the surgery, he
will be free of pain and can return to "normal doggie life."
Pepper gets along with cats, other dogs and loves humans. He is
very sweet and has recently learned some manners. Once he is
discharged from the hospital he will go to a foster home for his
recuperation time which should be about 1 month. Stay tuned to see
how this beautiful boy progresses.
