UPDATE 6/28/2010
Chester is still doing perfectly. He is no longer a skinny dog as he
has a healthy appetite and has filled in nicely. He is so ready to find
his forever home. At first I felt he would do best with a younger dog
to play with, but now that I know him better I firmly believe he is a
big people dog and would also work wonderfully in a one dog household.
He is very smart and a quick learner. His favorite place to sleep is on
the couch, on his back, with all four legs in the air. Picture coming
soon.
FOSTER
UPDATE 5/19/10
I was asked if I would be interested
in taking Chester as a foster not long after he came to MAGRR, but after
looking at his picture on the internet I decided he did not look much
like a golden and in one picture even appeared to be snarling a little;
so I passed on this boy. Now I can tell you honestly that I could
not have been more wrong in my assumptions on this dog. He is
wonderful. He is so cute and funny. He has more personality
in that little freckled face than most Goldens we get. Age is
estimated at 3 to 5 on the website but I suspect younger as he acts like
a puppy most of the time. He is very full of energy and loves to
play with dog toys and other dogs. I can certainly see where he
might be too much for an older dog as he wants to play with another dog
so bad. My older dog has taught him to steer clear of her, but he
is relentlessly pestering my younger dog to play. I can also see
where he might be too much for younger children as he has a lot of
energy and is not well trained to keep it bottled up. He likes to
greet guests by getting face to face with them while happily wagging his
tail. He is house broken and can be trusted for long periods
in the house. I would not classify him as a bolter, but he is an
opportunist, and if he gets the chance to get out, likes to go on
excursions. Fortunately he is so friendly, we soon get a call
telling us where to go get him. Ok, that's it for the bad, now for
the good. It is hard to express just how big of a sweetheart this
boy is. He loves to lay next to you on the couch with his head in
your lap, but is just as content lying on the floor at your feet.
He does enjoy sleeping on the couch with all four legs in the air.
He loves a pat on the head or a scratch behind the ear, and relishes a
good belly rub. He is a very smart boy and I feel certain with the
right owner to work with him could control himself very well and be an
excellent pet. He does a great job of chewing on nothing but dog
toys, and he adores dog toys, any kind of ball, and running full blast.
It appears previously his leg was a big issue, but it absolutely no
issue at all now. This is a terrific dog who has a tremendous
amount of adorable personality. He would be best suited in a home
with other young dogs who love to play and needs someone willing to give
him the exercise that he needs. He loves other dogs and is even
good with our cat.

UPDATE 2/5/2010
Chester is feeling soooo much better. He is ready to play.
He enjoys picking up the toys and taking toys away from the other dogs.
Lucky for him my goldens are very passive. He is full of energy.
He is so restless in the crate now. He has no issues with his leg.
He can now bend/tuck his leg under his body. He could not do this
a few weeks ago without quickly laying it back flat. Housebreaking
is going well, no accidents this week. I do trust him in the house
without supervision and out of the crate for a short period of time.
He has not bothered anything in the house other than the dog toys.
He would like to sleep on the couch on his back with his legs up.
The couch is off limits in my home. Sorry Chester. He is a
very funny talker while rolling around with the other dogs.

UPDATE 1/14/2010
Chester is a sweet young boy. He enjoys being with my two dogs.
He likes my daughter. He knows the command "sit". Learning
"go lay down". He is fine in the crate while we are gone.
But, if we are home he does his talking inside the crate. He would
rather be laying at your feet or laying with another dog.
He is well behaved in the house. He is not completely housebroken.
But, is improving each day. Sometimes, he will go to the back door
when he needs to go out. This young boy is full of energy and is
dying to play. For now he enjoys a squeaky toy and chewing on a
ball which he has not destroyed. Since, he is on crate rest and
must stay off his leg; he has come to love the big oversize bed.
This young guy has a lot of character. He does have a crooked leg
but he does not know it. I know once he is healed he will be
running a race with my youngest golden soo
Intake Report 12/18/09
C
hester was literally snatched from
jaws of death at a local high kill shelter that have been known in the
past to euthanize dogs for no good reasons. MAGRR's Intake Team
member decided that this boy deserved a chance. When he got him
out of his cage to meet him, Chester began to "talk" to him. He
decided that Chester was begging for a chance at a good life.
MAGRR decided right then to spring this boy and find him the home he
deserves. He had a crooked leg which didn't seem to slow him down.
He was taken to our fabulous vets where his leg was x-rayed. It
was determined that he had had a break and it had healed without benefit
of a cast or vet intervention. While it is a bit crooked, our vet
decided that it was almost healed and would not cause any problems once
completely healed and would be much more traumatic for him to re-break
it and put in a plate. He has gone to his foster home where he
will be on crate rest until it is completely healed. This boy is a
real "talker" and has such a cute personality. Once he can run and
run, he will have lots of energy. Keep up with his progress
as he becomes that special boy that he was meant to be.
